With its low cost of living, solid economy, laid-back lifestyle, sporting options and wide-open spaces, Kansas offers a compelling proposition for those seeking a teaching career in mathematics. Kansas is seeking top-notch educators, and the state’s teacher salaries are slowly increasing to reach the national average. To attract high-quality educators, Kansas participates in a range of federal loan forgiveness programs for teachers working in high-need areas. Kansas also offers a range of grants to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
There are numerous professional associations and programs available that will help prospective teachers thrive. Kansas also offers several pathways to obtain teaching certification: from an Initial Teaching Certificate to an Accomplished Teachers Certificate. Obtaining a reciprocal license is fairly streamlined, and the state is willing to accept credit from out-of-state teacher education programs (as long as you have passed the Praxis content area tests).
